Synchronicity from Synchronized Chaos
نویسنده
چکیده
The dynamical systems paradigm of synchronized chaos may realize the philosophical notion of “synchronicity”. Effectively unpredictable chaotic systems commonly exhibit a predictable relationship when they are coupled through only a few of many variables, a relationship that can be highly intermittent in realistic configurations, as with philosophical “synchronicities”. Synchronicities are meaningful, as philosophically required, if meaningfulness is related to internal coherence. Internal synchronization indeed facilitates synchronization with an external system as illustrated for systems that exhibit oscillons, primitive time-varying coherent structures. The philosophical notion of synchronicity between matter and mind is realized dynamically if mind is analogized to a computer model assimilating data from observations, as in meteorology. Synchronicity-as-synchronized-chaos has useful implications both for neuroscience and for basic physics. In the former realm, it appears that representations based on synchronized chaotic oscillators are useful for global combinatorial optimization, as in perceptual grouping, and for fusion of alternative representations of an objective process, as may give rise to consciousness. Basic physical synchronicity is manifest in the nonlocal quantum connections implied by Bell’s theorem. The quantum world seems to reside on a generalized synchronization “manifold”, that one can either take as primitive or as evidence of a multiply-connected spacetime.

Measuring the Intermittent Synchronicity of Macroeconomic Growth in Europe
Synchronization of growth rates are an important feature of international business cycles, particularly in relation to regional integration projects such as the single currency in Europe. Synchronization of growth rates clearly enhances the e¤ectiveness of European Central Bank monetary policy, ensuring that policy changes are attuned to the dynamics of growth and business cycles in the majorit...
متن کاملDynamical Complexity in the C.elegans Neural Network
We model the neuronal circuit of the C.elegans soil worm in terms of Hindmarsh-Rose systems of ordinary differential equations, dividing its circuit into six communities pointed out by the walktrap and Louvain methods. Using the numerical solution of these equations, we analyze important measures of dynamical complexity, namely synchronicity, the largest Lyapunov exponent, and the ΦAR auto-regr...
متن کاملSensitivity to synchronicity of biological motion in normal and amblyopic vision
Amblyopia is a developmental disorder of spatial vision that results from abnormal early visual experience usually due to the presence of strabismus, anisometropia, or both strabismus and anisometropia. Amblyopia results in a range of visual deficits that cannot be corrected by optics because the deficits reflect neural abnormalities. Biological motion refers to the motion patterns of living or...
متن کامل6-Year Periodicity and Variable Synchronicity in a Mass-Flowering Plant
Periodical organisms, such as bamboos and periodical cicadas, are very famous for their synchronous reproduction. In bamboos and other periodical plants, the synchronicity of mass-flowering and withering has been often reported indicating these species are monocarpic (semelparous) species. Therefore, synchronicity and periodicity are often suspected to be fairly tightly coupled traits in these ...
متن کاملUpper bounds in phase synchronous weak coherent chaotic attractors
An approach is presented for coupled chaotic systems with weak coherent motion, from which we estimate the upper bound value for the absolute phase difference in phase synchronous states. This approach shows that synchronicity in phase implies synchronicity in the time of events, a characteristic explored to derive an equation to detect phase synchronization, based on the absolute difference be...
